A Sonnet on Jesus

Feel free to take offense, but no spewing hate, please. :)

A humble Jew from near the Sea of Galilee,
Your story commands an eternal fascination.
Fighting the hypocritical pious valiantly,
And making the case for serious reformation.

Quite rapidly, your popularity did soar,
Helping solidify many a powerful empire.
Indulging in acts that you would abhor,
On Earth itself, they created hellfire.

Massacring many while chanting your praise,
They became exactly what you did not want.
Jews, women, blacks, pagans, and gays,
Are so hated that even you will be gaunt.

Who will you send to your hell when you return as the judge?
The meek that suffer, or the pious that refuse to budge?

The River of Fire

My first surreal poem! It picks up where my first sonnet ended. Caution: this one might not be for the faint-hearted! :)

Free at last, merrily she marched on.
The wind in her hair, a spark in her eyes,
The spring in the air, a spring in her toes,
Seeking the stars that lit up the skies.

Rolling hills enveloped in fresh grass,
And colorful flowers adorned her way.
Happily humming many mellifluous melodies,
Amazed she was at the beauty of that day.

But on her path, she saw a quiet river,
Deeming it fine, in to it she did wade.
In a blink, the waters engulfed her,
Even the spark in her eyes began to fade.

As if by magic, the water turned to fire,
Yellow flames rose high with a searing heat!
Her robe burned to ashes, her skin in boils,
She realized she had no chance of retreat.

All her nails began to curl up and fall,
With the prickling pain of thousand pins.
Red and thick blood gushed out her veins,
An unspeakable agony, yet it only begins.

A cry so loud, it echoed around the valley,
Alas, there was no clear respite in sight.
She still kept hoping for the ordeal's end,
Thinking, overcome this, she just might!

She watched as her limbs crumbled to bits,
One by one, they failed to get her out.
Her own mind turned against her will,
The sanity of herself, she began to doubt.

When all seemed lost, she reached for the sky,
Came a rain so heavy, it blanketed the land.
Amidst the solemn sky's soothing showers,
She knew her redemption was now at hand!

As the fiery flames finally fizzled away,
Her body was once again put firmly together.
And as she dragged herself out of the river,
Never before did she feel as light as a feather!

The clouds parted, bringing out the smiling Sun,
Briskly she climbed up the very next hill.
Why look back when there is so much ahead,
A new life, a new joy, indeed a new thrill!

River after river covered the valley,
Upon seeing which, she became very distraught.
With a deep breath, she pulled herself up,
And decided she will march on no matter what! :)

A Sonnet on Infinity

In the cosmos so magnificent and vast,
We get a glorious glimpse of you.
In the winds of time blowing so fast,
You present yourself sans all ado.

As the love of a mother for her child,
You make us everything that is human.
As hope when difficulties get piled,
We look upon you as a great numen.

For millions, you are the ultimate truth.
An awe-inspiring redeemer, indeed, a hero.
An infinity of infinities exist, in sooth.
Yet, you all cower before the humble zero!

Perhaps, you are just a figment of our stupidity.
Or perhaps, you are the depth of our curiosity.

A Sonnet on Change

A seed grows into a tree so tall,
Nourished well by the shining Sun.
The tree keeps providing for all,
Even after when its life is done.

A life full of fun and cheers,
So much so we don't take stock.
In a blink, it turns to tears,
Leaving us in a state of shock.

Sometimes, 'tis simply too rapid,
Like when a bubble popped disappears.
Yet other times, its pace is tepid,
Like when from coal a diamond appears!

Indeed, there is almost nothing that is constant.
Some change over eons, and some in an instant.
